Creating Art with Canoers and Kayakers Using LEDs In Long Exposure Photography

Stephen Orlando is a light painter and long exposure photographer that has come up with an amazingly creative way of showing sinusoidal motion of kayakers, swimmers, and canoers. With the use of LED lighting and a very long exposure, Stephen has been able to capture the boaters as they make their way through the water.

With this type of exposure time, the boater seems to disappear as they make their way through the water leaving only the motions of the paddle as an awe-inspiring light show on the surface of the water.

“I’m fascinated with capturing motion through time and space into a single photograph. Using LED lights with custom color patterns and long exposure photography. I’m able to tell the story of movement. This technique reveals beautiful light trails created by paths of familiar objects. These light trails have not been artificially created with Photoshop and represent the actual paths of the objects.”-Stephen Orlando

It’s amazing the art we can create with the level of technology that we as humans have. And yet even more amazing is when we are able to show how beautiful something as simple as light can be. Sometimes all we need to do is slow down time in order to see this world in a whole new way.
Stephen Orlando has been able to create some incredible images with this technique. Which image is your favorite? Let us know in the comments below.
